Myopia is the opposite of Hypermetropia and is commonly referred to as short-sightedness.
It usually occurs in your teenage years but can develop over time.
Myopia can be caused by the cornea being too pointy or curved, this affects the way the light bends on the eye, causing light to bend too quickly for the retina.
If you have myopia you will notice objects look clear close-up, however, objects will appear blurry the farther they are away from the eye.
Myopia can easily be corrected with glasses or contact lenses at one of our clinics.
On your prescription card, this will be signified under the section entitled SPH with a – symbol.
