Eye Examination

For freedom and flexibility

comprehensive eye examination

The examination is conducted by fully qualified and experienced optometrist and lasts about 30 minutes. During this time the optometrist will listen closely to what you say and will explain all aspects of the various tests and the test results. It is important that you feel you can ask questions and discuss all aspects of the eye examination with your optometrist.

  • History and symptoms: We will discuss your history and symptoms with you. Asking you about your eye health, general health, your medical history, relevant aspects of your family’s medical history, and lifestyle issues that might impact our diagnosis.
  • Refraction: Your distance, intermediate and near vision, will be tested to determine whether you need corrective lenses and if so which corrective lens will give you the clearest most comfortable vision.
  • Ocular-moto balancing: How well your eyes work together will be assessed using this eye muscle coordination check.
  • Pupil reflexes: The pupils control the amount of light reaching the retina of the eye and our optometrist checks each pupil to make sure it is working properly.
  • Perception of colour and depth perception: If required, usually for particular vocational purposes, tests for colour-blindness and depth perception are conducted.
  • Intra-ocular pressure: In patients over the age of 40, and in other patients in whom the test is deemed appropriate, the pressures within the eyes will be measured.
  • Ophthalmoscopy: It is a detailed examination of the inside of your eyes checking for conditions such as cataracts, hypertension, macula degeneration, diabetes and glaucoma.
  • Retinal Photography: A specialist digital fundus camera is used to take images of your retinas allowing a more detailed inspection of the vessels in the back of the eye.
  • Vision Field Detection: This is undertaken if you feel you are suffering from a loss of sight in certain areas of your vision or if the optometrist feels the additional test is appropriate for other reasons.
